Job Development activities help a person find a job that matches their career interests. Job development activities include: helping employers work better with individuals with mental illness; finding the right employment setting; matching individuals to specific positions based on their interests, skills and needs; and advocating with employers to request changes to help things go more smoothly. Job developers work more or less intensely with employers and locating jobs, depending on where they work.

You can be an intelligent person and still have a learning disability (LD). Learning Disabilities can affect your ability to plan, make decisions, concentrate, and think through a problem. Such problems can have an impact on speaking, reading, writing, and math. You can get help with a learning disorder.

You are thinking of dropping out because you can't meet school requirements. Maybe you can't go to school during the day and need to go at night. If you are in either of these situations, the Young Adults Borough Centers (YABC) could be a good option for you. To qualify, you need to be at least 17 and a half years old and have at least 17 credits.

NYC Department of Education District 79 is made up of alternative schools and programs. If you are a student under the age of 21, District 79 offers the opportunity to stay in school and work toward the GED diploma. District 79 was set up to help students who have had to deal with terrible life events, substance abuse, pregnancy, or the criminal justice system. Students benefit from support services as well as counseling in career and education. District 79 offers full-time and part-time options in NYC.

Adolescent Skill Centers are designed for young people ages 16-21 who are struggling with school and emotional difficulties. The Skills Centers can help you meet challenges related to education (including GED preparation), employment, and social isolation.
